Besides steam eye masks, there is another type of eye mask on the market that is an improved version of a warming patch. While this type of eye mask looks similar to a steam eye mask, and some even claim to produce "steam," there are significant differences that should be noted. The main differences are as follows:

 

(1) Manufacturing Process and Formula: Genuine steam eye masks are manufactured according to a strict formula, with precise amounts of iron powder, carbon powder, water, and other materials determined during the raw material proportioning design. Eye masks directly improved from warming patches, however, primarily use the formula of a warming patch. If they claim to produce "steam," it's usually achieved by simply adding a certain amount of water to the original warming patch formula, which is an inherently flawed design.

 

(2) Raw Material Purity: The internal materials of genuine steam eye masks generally have a purity level above chemical grade, ensuring consistent heat output, heating time, and heating stability. Eye masks improved from warming patches typically do not meet this purity standard, leading to insufficient heat, shorter heating time, and poor heating stability. Furthermore, the amount and temperature of the steam cannot be controlled.

 

(3) Safety: As mentioned above, genuine steam eye masks have strict requirements for steam volume, steam temperature, and heating time. These cannot be guaranteed with eye masks improved from warming patches, potentially leading to excessively high or sudden increases in steam temperature. Due to the sensitivity of the eyes, this can easily cause burns. Additionally, because eye masks improved from warming patches are generally thicker and larger, there is a risk of internal material leakage.
